Digging

Introduction

In Trickster, digging is important, no matter the class.

About Sense

Some classes are better at digging than others. Sense types, Fox and Lion, are the best at digging because they are required to always have a 4 in the Sense stat, and the sense stat enhances digging. If any other class puts a 4 in sense, they can dig very well also.

What you get from digging

When you dig successfully, you gain EXP and sometimes items that will drop, but be reminded that you will only get TM EXP when you get an item while digging, but you will get normal EXP no matter what. When you dig, you'll see numbers popping out of the ground. These numbers represent how far you're dug. The farther you dig, the more likely you are to find a item and gain more EXP!

The Formulas (Courtesy of jTrickster Wiki)

Base EXP Gained (Doesn't matter if you found something or nothing):
Depth * XX

Depth: The number of meters you dug down to.
XX: The Stage multiple of the drill.
(Stage 1 = 1.2, Stage 2 = 2.4, Stage 3 = 4.4, Stage 4 = 6(?), Stage 5 = 8.4)

TM EXP (Only if you found something):
(Player BaseLV + Depth item was found at) * Drill Stage # * 4

If there was definitely an item, but you are interrupted, the item will be removed and you will lose any potential TM experience.

How to dig

When you press the dig button (D), a new cursor will appear. Move the cursor to wherever you want to dig and click. Your character will move there and begin digging immediately. When you dig, a bar will popup above your head. Click the mouse cursor repeatibly to make the bar raise, don't, and it'll go down. There is a line a little past halfway in the bar. This line should be what you're watching. To drill, you must click repeatibly to keep the bar raised past the line, but not full. If it gets full it'll go all the way down. You will either find a item, or you'll mess up and it'll be a failure.

Tips

  • Tip: When an item is dug up, another respawns on a random patch of the map. This means more items are likely to be found in areas less travelled by. (Speculation of Arvec, but you all know he's right)
  • Tip: The number on the right side of the interface is your maximum depth. Most of the places in the newbie areas only have a depth of 10m, while your first drill has a max depth of 20m. It is recommended for some classes who want some extra cash to hunt out higher level places with passive monsters and drill for items.
  • Tip: You shouldn't drill again on the patch you just drilled. Take a step before drilling again.
  • Tip: Drills don't last forever; eventually, if you constantly drill, it'll break down and you'll have to buy a new one. The first drill you start with automatically and has 600 uses. Most other drills only last 150-200 uses.
  • Tip: Drills are also effected by the terrain that you're digging in, so be careful: some drills are better in certain areas.
  • Tip: While digging gives a break from just whacking monsters, the EXP isn't as efficient as partying. This is why drilling is mainly used to gain TM levels and items.
  • Tip: You only get TM exp if you recieve an item; you do, however, recieve normal exp. The chance of getting an item is affected by your synthesis rate (sometimes called DA), which is a sense stat.
